William Stanford, M.D., Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. William Stanford began his career as a mechanical engineer working for Texas Instruments in the aerospace industry. His engineering experience led to an interest in medical science and in 1991 he began the Medical Scientist Training Program at UCLA. In 1998 he received his MD degree along with a PhD in Physiology.
Recognizing the challenges in the hospital healthcare delivery system, Dr. Stanford was one of the early pioneers of Hospital Medicine. Hospitalists dedicate their fulltime effort to practicing medicine in the hospital setting. In 2001 Dr. Stanford established and founded the Stanford Hospitalist Medical Group “SHMG.”
Today SHMG is one of the premiere Hospitalist practices in Southern California delivering exclusive and specialized hospital care by Board Certified physicians. In recognition of Dr. Stanford’s outstanding work in the field of Hospitalist Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center asked him to develop a multidisciplinary physician team model with the goal of improving patient outcomes, efficiency and care transition. Dr. Stanford’s successful program of “Physician Advocates” was adopted and implemented by Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2014.
